It’s Friday night, and I really should be out having fun. Or at least pretending to. But instead I’m stuck in front of a keyboard with a guitar on my lap, looking at blippy notes and plugins on my computer trying to put together some new songs. And it got me to thinking: why the fuck is it so had to write a good song?
I guess it’s because awesome music is so abstract and elusive, that you never really know how to make it until you hear it. So you end up noodling for hours on end until you hear 3 notes that sound good together – or an effect that has some crazy ass mystical thing going on, only to find that it doesnt work with anything else you’re working on. I guess it’s why when we’re writing together, we can only muster stupid communications like “I’ll play this swoopy bit while you play some driving plinky clean part over it”.
Music is hard. And there isn’t even any beer in the fridge.
